Matilde is 16 years old, struggles with her emotions, and has an obsession with air pollution. For this reason, she wears a smog helmet and takes an apnea course to learn how to hold her breath for as long as possible in case of an emergency. At the start of a long, scorching summer, she meets Zoe, a girl her age who disrupts her ordinary life and forces her to confront the world she had been avoiding.
